dunning kruger vs imposter syndrome

Over the last several years I’ve become far too familiar with both the Dunning-Kruger Effect, the tendency of the not-so-capable to feel more capable than they should, and the Imposter Syndrome, the tendency of the competent to fear being exposed as undeserving frauds.

It seems that one should preclude the other, but there’s something missing. Where is the middle ground–those of us who know we kinda suck but also have our good moments? The people who mostly have their shit together but occasionally find they’ve put their car keys in the refrigerator?

FridgeKeysians of the world, unite! The world needs us, except when it doesn’t. We are the happy medium, and the world is ours! Probably!
